SWALLOW ME WHOLE in development as a feature film!
I'm excited to announce that my 2008 graphic novel Swallow Me Whole is in early stages of development as an indie film, based on a screenplay I've written, and with my participation and input all the way down the line.
Expect more news in the next few weeks-- in the meantime, you can follow developments for the film on Twitter and Instagram. You can also contact me directly at seemybrotherdance@yahoo.com.
Thanks-- more to come!

Original artwork up for sale through late July-- a rare chance to buy MARCH pages too!
Original signed pages from nearly all of my books are now for sale through late July at my Etsy site-- your support will help me pay off a mountain of hospital bills from the birth of my second daughter, and swim out of debt with the IRS.
CHECK OUT THE SALE HERE.
The sale features work priced from $150 to $1000, and includes pages from March: Book One, The Lost Hero, You Don't Say, Any Empire, Swallow Me Whole, The Silence Of Our Friends, The Year Of The Beasts, In The Dark, Sweet Tooth, Please Release, Sounds Of Your Name, Tiny Giants, and Walkie Talkie. It includes collaborations with writers Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, Rick Riordan, Robert Venditti, Cecil Castellucci, Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Mark Long, and Jim Demonakos. There are also a few unpublished gems in there, like a 1999 Fantastic Four pinup, a tryout page for The Lost Hero, and an alternate version of a March: Book One page!
Being a self-employed comic book artist isn't easy or full of job security, especially when trying to support a family with one's efforts-- cartoonists usually don't have a typical means of saving for any retirement or getting employer-based health insurance, and we get absolutely slammed by income taxes as sole proprietors. Career cartoonists are virtually guaranteed to die at their drawing tables, working through old age to make ends meet. I welcome and am prepared for that challenge, and this sale will help bridge a little bump in the road.
Thank you so much for your support and understanding, and for spreading the word-- now back to work!

Hi-- I'll be putting some pages of original artwork up for sale in the next few days in order to pay for hospital bills, car problems, and swim out of my debt dungeon with the IRS.
This includes pages from SWALLOW ME WHOLE, ANY EMPIRE, WALKIE TALKIE/ SOUNDS OF YOUR NAME, PLEASE RELEASE/ YOU DON'T SAY, THE SILENCE OF OUR FRIENDS (w/ Mark Long & Jim Demonakos), THE YEAR OF THE BEASTS (w/ Cecil Castellucci), TWELVE REASONS TO DIE (w/ Ghostface Killah & Matthew Rosenberg), IN THE DARK (w/ Scott Snyder), THE LOST HERO (w/ Rick Riordan & Robert Venditti), SWEET TOOTH (w/ Jeff Lemire), and the only two pages from MARCH that will ever be available for sale in the forseeable future.
Stay tuned-- Probably putting them up Monday, remaining available through the end of July. Thanks for your support and faith!

New French story in LA VILLA SUR LA FALAISE!
If you're in France, pick up a copy of Casterman Publishing's La Villa Sur La Falaise ("The Villa At The End Of The Road"), a 280-page short story anthology commemorating the 10th anniversary of their Ecritures graphic novel line (to which Swallow Me Whole and The Silence Of Our Friends belong). I have a brand new 17-page story in the book, available nowhere else!
Other contributors include Isabel Kreitz, Jiro Taniguchi, Cati Baur, Hannah Berry, Saulne, Davide Reviati, Fred Bernard, Gabrielle Piquet, and Kan Takahama. Each of us did a short story continuing a common narrative setup penned by Benoit Sekal. This was one of my favorite stories to bring to life-- I hope you enjoy it!
If you live in North America and would like a copy, I have a handful and will gladly send you a signed copy for $15 in the US, or slightly more in Canada-- just email me at seemybrotherdance@yahoo.com to inquire. Thanks.

Interview with KUAR Public Radio
Here's an interview I just did with Ron Breeding at KUAR, Little Rock's public radio affiliate, on the opening of my Cross Sections exhibit at the Historic Arkansas Museum (open until early June).
Sunday, March 18, 2012
CROSS SECTIONS exhibit opens in Little Rock AR, 4/13!
I have an exhibit of comics and illustration work from 1998 to present, focusing on the graphic novel work of the last five years (The Year Of The Beasts, The Silence Of Our Friends, Any Empire, Swallow Me Whole), coming to the Historic Arkansas Museum (200 E. 3rd St.) in Little Rock, AR from April 13th to June 1st!
The exhibit, entitled Cross Sections, will have an opening reception on Friday, April 13th from 5-8pm. All pieces are for sale, and graphic novels will be available in the bookstore as well.
The opening will have musical accompaniment by Little Rock's own Isaac Alexander (Boondogs, The Easys, Big Silver), drinks aplenty, and food and soup tasting from Sharea Soup.
The Facebook event page is here.
If you're around town, I'll be signing at The Comic Book Store (9307 Treasure Hill Rd.) on Saturday, April 14th from 12-2pm. More original artwork will be available there as well.
Here's my artist statement for the show:

Cross Sections.
These are
slices of much longer narratives developed from 1998 to the present. Viewing
long-form comic book work in a gallery setting has its difficulties—each story
or graphic novel I create sits as a single body of work, but is also made of
200-300 individual pieces, each then comprised of 5 or 6 panels, all of which
are intended to be absorbed as part of the larger body, but which must also
hold their own, free of sequential context.
With this
exhibition, I present core samples from more than a dozen different projects
over 14 years. The first period of work, from 1998 to about 2005, is defined by
focus on failed communication, guilt, transience, and thinly-veiled desire. The
second era, lasting until about 2008, is more focused on unassuming depictions
of highly subjective experiences and characters, finally exploring dread,
menace, selfishness, and loss of control. Works from 2009 to 2012 condense
these questions, reintroducing them as more pointed narratives about Southern
culture, shifting notions of identity, questionable legacies, and the threat of
violence.
Many of
my narratives are ambiguous or open-ended, and some readers are uncomfortable
with the absence of a clearly established viewpoint. I’m personally drawn most
to stories that demand multiple visits, those that contain the strong
possibility of multiple true perspectives, and those that respect an audience’s
ability to explore those questions themselves. My work is increasingly defined
by questions that invite (and require) the reader to meet me halfway, invest
some of their own lives into the narrative, and emerge from a unique and
immersive reading experience with questions and dialogue of their own.
